GEO Services – Generative Engine Optimization for AI Search

People have started asking AI assistants the questions they used to type into Google. “Who’s the best accountant in Leeds?” “Which CRM suits a small agency?” The assistant answers, names two or three businesses, and the conversation ends there.

If you are not one of the names it gives, you were never in the running. There is no page two to climb to.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the work of making your business the one those systems cite. It overlaps with SEO but it is not the same job.

Why GEO Is Not Just SEO

Traditional SEO competes for a position in a list. GEO competes to be quoted inside an answer.

That changes what matters. A language model is not scanning for keyword density. It is looking for content it can extract a clean, confident, attributable statement from. Pages that ramble, bury the answer, or hedge everything get passed over in favour of pages that state things plainly.

The awkward truth is that a lot of content written to rank well reads badly to a model, because it was padded to hit a word count.

What I Do

Extractable answer blocks

Content restructured so the answer to each question sits in a clean, self-contained passage a model can lift without needing the surrounding page. Question as heading, direct answer immediately beneath, detail after.

Entity clarity

Making unmistakably clear what your business is, what it does, where it operates and what it is associated with. Models work on entities and relationships. Vague copy produces vague associations, and vague associations do not get cited.

Schema and structured data

Hand-written markup so machines read your facts as facts rather than inferring them from prose.

Corroboration

Models weigh whether a claim is supported elsewhere. Consistent information across your site, your profiles and third-party mentions makes you a safer thing to quote.

Visibility tracking

Monitoring whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews actually name you for the questions that matter, so this is measured rather than assumed.

An Honest Word on Measurement

GEO is newer than SEO and the measurement is genuinely less mature. AI assistants do not publish rank data, answers vary between users and sessions, and referral traffic is often invisible in analytics.

Anyone selling you guaranteed AI rankings is overstating what the field can currently do. What I can do is track citation frequency across the questions that matter to you, and show movement over time. That is real, but it is not the tidy dashboard traditional rank tracking gives you.

Common Questions

Is GEO replacing SEO?

No. Google search is still far larger than AI assistants. GEO is an additional channel, and the sensible move is to cover both rather than bet on one.

Does GEO work hurt my Google rankings?

The opposite, usually. Clear structure, real schema and directly answered questions help conventional rankings too. That is the main reason it is worth doing now.

How is this different from AEO?

They overlap heavily. AEO is usually framed around direct answers, featured snippets and voice. GEO is framed around being cited inside generated responses. In practice I do them together.
